A Retro Look For Your Teen’s Room

Do you remember the 60′s? It was a time for tie dye, Woodstock, flower power, and peace symbols everywhere. The 60′s was about hippies and although the 60′s is gone the hippie fad is still around. Now it doesn’t stay around, it comes and goes. For now it is the teen rage right now. If your teen is showing you signs of the 60′s spirit then use that theme to decorate her room.

During the 60′s the decor was bold and the use of bright striking colors were the choice. So for your teens’ walls you can combine the bright psychedelic colors of the 60′s to set the mood. Use a block design on her walls and paint each block a bright color that is different from the next. You can use masking tape to mark off the blocks on the walls and then paint inside the block then let it dry. Don’t use this look on every wall as it can be too much. You can add a final touch to the look by adding a hippie touch like bright colored daisies stenciled on the walls.

Now it’s time to furnish her room. To do this you will need to keep in mind that in the 60′s it was about being playful so you can use bean bag chairs or blow up chairs. Paint all wood furniture white. Next you want to take down the light fixture and add the disco ball. To finish the touch you want to add some 60′s music so she can listen to it and get into the spirit. No retro room will be complete without a lava lamp. You can find a lot of retro decor at discount stores. Don’t forget the incense sticks to place on her night stand to help her relax when she is listening to her music.

You want to place a shag rug on the floor. The 60′s were well known for their looks in rugs and the shag look was very popular. You can get a jewel toned rug or psychedelic rug. You may find that a shag area rug balances the room out.

For her wall art, dust off your vintage vinyl and classic rock album covers and hang them on the walls. She will then have Lennon and the Rolling Stones watching over her while she sleeps.

When it comes to cushion covers you want them to be tie dye. You can do this at home together so both of you can enjoy the final look. Take some white linen and add any color you want to her room.

Remember that hippies believed in freedom of expression so in order to make her happy you will need to allow her to express herself too. This will make the room look wonderful and she will be very happy.
